William H. MacLaughlin ’49

PERSONAL & EDUCATION:

  • Born January 14, 1932
  • Pledged SAE Cal Beta in 1949
  • Graduated from Cal in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science from the College of Business Administration with a concentration in Real Estate Finance
  • Served as a Naval Officer in the Korean War until 1955
  • Returned to Cal and enrolled in the Graduate School of Business Administration

EARLY CAREER:

  • Began working in San Francisco, CA, for Coldwell Banker in 1955
  • Transferred to their Sacramento office in 1957 where he became Mortgage Loan Supervisor for Sacramento and San Joaquin counties
  • Opened his own commercial real estate firm, MacLaughlin and Company, in 1960

MACLAUGHLIN & CO:

  • Specializes in general brokerage and development of commercial and industrial properties Sacramento, Stockton and San Jose
  • Developments include:
    • 400,000 s.f. of buildings in the Central Industrial Park, San Jose, CA
    • 26 multi-tenant buildings in the West Sacramento Port Center
    • 9 buildings in the Triangle Industrial Park, Stockton, CA
    • 4 buildings in Dixon, CA and 5 buildings in Rancho Cordova, CA
  • Currently manages for private clients over 3 million square feet of buildings
  • Company is now owned by Bill’s three sons Thomas, James and William III
  • Bill Sr. still maintains an active advising role in the company
